Definition |
The main crop cultivated area represents the sown or planted area on own land in the agricultural year of reference or in the previous years (biennial, triennial or perennial crops) with one main crop cultivated for the largest part of the year. |

Methodology |
Main purpose - obtaining the data on cultivated area and on main crop production
Sampling units - individual holdings and legal units utilising agricultural areas
Recording type - self-recorded for legal units and by face-to-face interview for individual holdings
Recording period - 1 - 30 November of current year
The sample of the survey was designed on a stratified sampling frame by county, legal status, and size class of utilised agricultural area; the sample size is of approx. 64,000 holdings
Sample allocation - the optimal Neyman sample allocation depends on the agricultural area of interest in strata determined by the following characteristics: residential counties, counties where the agricultural areas are located, legal status of the agricultural holding and size classes of the agricultural area.

Observations |
For 1990-1999 Bucharest municipality including Ilfov county. No data are available for durum wheat and common wheat over the period 1990-1996. In 1990 the private sector was only represented by the individual agricultural holdings. Until 2003, the indicator perennial fodder crops were replaced by the indicator multi annual fodder. Until 2003, the indicator silage maize was replaced by the indicator green maize. Until 2006, the indicator land left unseeded and fields was replaced by the indicator follow land. Due to rounding of decimals final part of the weighting coefficients for data from selective surveys there are sometimes small differences between the totals and the result of summing. Areas with less than 0.5 ha are not highlighted.
