COM105C - Turnover of volume indices of retail trade (2000=100) working day adjusted series and sesonal adjusted series |
Definition |
Retail includes re-sale (sale without transformation) of new and second-hand goods, mainly to the public at large, generally in small quantities for consumption or personal or domestic usage through stores, superstores, stalls (booths), houses for mail orders, pedlars, consumption co-operatives, etc. Retail do not include: sale of motor vehicles, motorcycles and spare parts and fuel for motor vehicles; sales of agro-food products by natural persons on the peasant market; trade with cereals seeds, ores, crude oil, chemical products for industry, iron and steel, machinery and industrial equipment; sales of food and beverages for consumption in bars and sale of takeout; renting personal and household goods. For the methodological harmonisation with the statistical system of the European Union, the monthly surveys on retail persue as statistical indicator turnover net of VAT achieved by enterprises which have this activity. Turnover represents total income of enterprise in the reference period, coming both from main activity and from secondary activities. Turnover does not include income from sale or transfer of fixed assets. Turnover indices are provisional and could be periodically revised, based on the retroactive corrections by enterprises in the sample, on the previously completed data. |

Methodology |
In order to adjust the series DEMETRA programs parcel was used (TRAMO/SEATS method) which estimates the effect of working days number different from one month to another and calendar effect (orthodox Easter, bissextile year, and other national holidays) as well as identifies and corrects extreme values (occasional, transitory or permanent level changes) and interpolates missing values. Adjusted series with working days number was obtained eliminating from unadjusted series of these effects by means of correction coefficients, set up according to regression model (additive or multiplicative). Regression models used for each series are set up at the begining of each year involving recalculation of adjusted series calculated in the previous year (recalculation because of adopted models change, number of regresors used under number of available observations). Aggregate levels were adjusted by direct method (direct adjustment of aggregates) instead of indirect method (adjustment of lower levels then aggregation of adjusted indices to obtain upper levels). Unobserved components: trend-cycle, seasonality and irregular components are estimated by means of SEATS program based on ARIMA models. Adjusted series of working days effect and seasonality is obtained by eliminating seasonal component from adjusted series of working days effect. Turnover volume indices are calculated under methodological conditions and comparable prices. Deflator price indices are used for the values of current period in the prices of the reference period. They are calculated by successive aggregations, starting from price indices for goods corresponding to each activity, these indices being calculated based on the monthly surveys of consumer prices.
