Important!
· Please hold Shift or Ctrl keys while clicking the dimension elements to obtain a multiple selection.
· Use the three buttons below each dimension to ease your selection: Expand, Collapse and Select All
· The measuring units are all selected by default, to prevent empty results when combining uncompatible requests (for example, one may ask for production of corn measured in liters; or a value in ROL after the denomination in 2005). You are free to modify the selection, just be careful. Thank you!
ECC108A - Environment - Dependence on the import of critical raw materials (experimental indicator)
Definition Import dependence on critical raw materials shows the extent to which an economy relies on imports of raw materials that present a high supply risk (critical raw materials).
Periodicity Annual
Data sources Data on the internal extraction, export and import of raw materials included in the publication Economy-wide material flow accounts carried out in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 691/2011 on European Environmental Economic Accounts.
Methodology The indicator is calculated as a percentage ratio between net import and domestic consumption of raw materials (Import-Export)/(Domestic extraction + Import - Export)*100.
- internal extraction: indicates the total quantity of raw materials extracted by resident units from the natural environment for further processing in the economy, expressed in kg;
- import: imports of raw materials, quantitative data (kg); intra-EU and extra-EU imports are included.
- export: exports of raw materials, quantitative data (kg); intra-EU and extra-EU exports are included.
The indicator was calculated for those raw materials that are also found in the list of critical raw materials available in the Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a framework for ensuring the safe and sustainable supply of critical raw materials and amending the Regulations (EU) no. 168/2013, (EU) 2018/858, (EU) 2018/1724 and (EU) 2019/1020 https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A52023PC0160.
Last update DEC 14, 2023
Observations - The indicator is produced experimentally.
