ECC109A - Environment - Self-sufficiency in critical raw materials (experimental indicator) |
Definition |
Self-sufficiency in critical raw materials measures the degree of independence of Romania from the rest of the world for a series of raw materials that present a high supply risk (critical raw materials). |
Periodicity |
Annual |
Data sources |
Data on the internal extraction, export and import of raw materials included in the publication Economy-wide material flow accounts carried out in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 691/2011 on European Environmental Economic Accounts. |
Methodology |
The indicator is complementary to the dependence on the import of critical raw materials and is calculated according to the formula: (1- net import/domestic consumption of raw materials) *100 = [1 -(Import-Export)/ (Domestic extraction + Import - Export)] *100.
- internal extraction: indicates the total quantity of raw materials extracted by resident units from the natural environment for further processing in the economy, expressed in kg;
- import: imports of raw materials, quantitative data (kg); intra-EU and extra-EU imports are included.
- export: exports of raw materials, quantitative data (kg); intra-EU and extra-EU exports are included.
The indicator was calculated for those raw materials that are also found in the list of critical raw materials available in the Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a framework for ensuring the safe and sustainable supply of critical raw materials and amending the Regulations (EU) no. 168/2013, (EU) 2018/858, (EU) 2018/1724 and (EU) 2019/1020 https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A52023PC0160. |
