PMI103A - Surface water quality by hydrographic basins and categories of quality |
Definition |
The evaluation of the surface waters quality is carried out by monitoring the biological hydro - morphological parameters, physico - chemical, the prioritary pollution agents or other pollution agents evacuated in important quantities. According to Law no.310/2004, annex 17.5 quality classes are distinguished, defined as follows: - the first quality class - very good state - no alterations (or very few) of physico-chemical and hydro - morphological quality elements value exist for the type of superficial waters bodies as against those normally associated with specific type in unchanged conditions; - the second quality class - good state - biological quality elements values for surface water body type presents low levels of change because of human activity, but it slightly deviate as against those normal values associated with superficial water bodies type in unchanged conditions; - the third quality class - moderate state - biological quality elements values for surface water body type moderately deviates as against those which are normally associated with surface water body type in unchanged conditions. These values presents moderate perturbation signs because of human activities and are essentially perturbed as against the good state conditions values; - the fourth quality class - poor - presents major alterations proofs of the biological quality elements values for surface water bodies type in which important biological communities significantly deviates from the normal values associated with surface water bodies type in unchanged conditions; - the fifth quality class - bad - presents major alterations proofs of the biological quality elements values for surface water bodies type and in which big parts from important biological communities are absent, which are normally associated with surface water bodies type in unchanged conditions.

Methodology |
The physico-chemical and biological monitoring of the water resources is done by sections of fast flow control (on a daily and weekly basis) and of slow flow control (on a monthly basis). Under fast flow, the data are daily monitored for approximately 12 quality indicators in more than 60 surveillance sections located on important rivers near the main water sampling and discharge sections. Under slow flow, the data are monitored for 50-60 quality indicators. The determinations are carried out within the laboratories of physico-chemical, biological and bacteriological analyses organised at the level of the Basin Districts and of the Water Management Systems. |
