Data sources |
Statistics from current evidence of population, for data referring to population number and demographic structure details |
Methodology |
Population number for intercensus years was determined based on data from censuses and data referring to natural and migratory movement (external migration, changes of domicile, settling of residence). Population was grouped by urban ad rural areas as follows: In 1930 and 1948, urban areas included municipalities, towns and suburban communes. From 1956 until 1966, urban areas included municipalities, towns and 183 localities assimilated to urban areas. For 1966 and 1967, urban areas included municipalities, towns and 238 localities assimilated to urban areas. Since 1968, urban areas includes only municipalities and towns. Age is expressed in reached years (ex: a person 24 years and 11 months old is considered to be 24 years old). LP(t)=LP(t-1)+Live births-Deaths+Immigrants-Emigrants+-Balance of migration determined by permanent residence changes where: t=time t t-1=anterior time t

Observations |
Legal population LP - it can be used only to calculate the demographic statistics indicators.
Population on January 1 / July 1 was calculated by the components method using administrative sources for external migration. These sources do not cover the entire phenomenon of migration, especialy the emigration flows from Romania . As such, there is a severe underestimate of the phenomenon which leads to an overstatement of the Romanian population.
Data presented are provisional, the number of population for the time series to the previous census will be recalculated and made available after the publication of the final results of 2011 Romania's Housing and Population Census.
