POP111A - Population on January 1st by age group, age and sex 
Definition The population on January 1st represents the number of persons having legal residence on the territory of Romania, delimited by territorial-administrative criteria.
The person's legal residence is the address where he/she declares to have the main dwelling, printed as such on its identity card and registered by the administrative bodies of the State.

Data sources 1. The database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for information on the migration of persons
2. The Census of populations on 1966, March 15th and 1977, January 5th
3. The results of exhaustive statistical researches on natality and mortality for the number of live births and of deceased in the studied period (based on administrative sources). 
Methodology The population for the inter-censuses years was determined based on data from censuses and on data regarding natural or migratory movement, as follows:
- for 1966-1976 period - based on the results of the census carried out in 1966 and on data on natural increase and on migration in those years;
- for 1977-1991 period - based on the results of the census carried out in 1977 and on data on natural increase and on migration in those years.
Age is expressed in completed years (for instance, a person of 24 years old and 11 months at July 1st, is considered to be of 24 years old).
