SAN107A - Medical emergency services, by specific elements 
Definition The emergency medical assistance is provided with ambulances to the places of call and, if necessary, for the transportation of patients to the hospital. The following data are registered:
- the number of ambulances;
- the patients transported;
- the patients assisted.
According to The Hospital Law, county and Bucharest municipality ambulance services have as main purpose to provide emergency medical assistance and assisted medical transport using, as the case maybe, high qualified and/or ancillary medical personnel at various levels, as well as specialized ambulance drivers. The ambulance services include two distinct departments: the emergency medical assistance and the assisted medical transport department as well as the emergency medical consultations and non-assisted medical transport department.

Methodology For 1990-2005 period, the data refer only to the majority state sector units. Since 2006, the data refer both for to the majority state sector and for the private one.

Observations Starting with 2020, the title of the research was modified to ''The activity of the medical and healthcare protection network" The survey title was modified in 2020 for a better understanding of the survey coverage.
Data sources: For the period 1990-2005 the data are provided by the Ministry of Health. Starting with 2006, the data are provided by the National Institute of Statistics.
