| SAR119C - Disposable income, by very low work intensity |
| Definition |
The disposable income of a household is the total income of a household, after taxes and other deductions. To ensure the comparability of households of different sizes and components, the transformation of individuals in each household into conventional ''adult-equivalent'' units is made, using the modified OECD scale. The disposable incomes achieved by each household are reported to the number of adult-equivalents, the value thus obtained being attributed to each person composing the respective household. Adult-equivalent: conventional unit through which the composition of a household is transformed according to the age of the persons composing it. The transformation is made on the basis of an equivalence scale, which in common practice is the modified OECD scale, with the following coefficients: - 1.0 for the first adult person in the household (head of household); - 0.5 for the following adults (persons aged 14 and over); - 0.3 for children up to 14 years of age. All persons in the surveyed households are ordered in ascending order by the disposable income per adult-equivalent assigned, in order to determine the median point of this distribution. The median income represents the median value of the distribution of disposable income per adult-equivalent, respectively the middle value of the distribution: 50% of persons have disposable income per adult-equivalent below this value and 50% above. Incomes are annual and have as reference period the calendar year preceding the collection period. |
