Definition |
Education unit - represents the administrative educational unit, juridical entity included in National Nomenclature SIRUES, where one or more level of education are functioning and having a single management system. The following are considered education units: creches, kindergartens, primary and lower secondary education units, special lower secondary education units, high-schools (upper secondary education units), education groups (within which more than one education level are functioning), vocational and foremen schools, post-secondary schools, and tertiary education institutions. |

Observations |
The data are available starting with 1992.
Until 2012, information exist at local level only for primary and secondary education (including special needs education), and since 2013, data are detailed distinctively for normal primary and secondary education and special primary and secondary education.
Data for post-secondary schools represents the sum of data for specialized post-secondary education and special needs post-secondary education.
Data for tertiary education are aggregated accross institutions (universitys), by the place (locality) of each faculty.
The number and denominations of Romania's localities comply with the administrative and territorial structure updated for the current year.
Starting with the school year 2014/2015, number of educational units also includes data on the number of nurseries.
Statistical data on the number of school units and related pre-universitary teaching staff refer to independent education units (nurseries/kindergartens/primary and lower secondary education units/upper secondary schools/vocational education units/post-secondary and/or and foremen schools, provided that they meet the following conditions: are registered with the SIRUES National Classification; have recorded their Unique Registration Number/tax number; represent the education unit having the greatest number of pupils/students enrolled; have students enrolled in full-time education - except for nurseries and kindergartens; have their own teaching staff - full-time employees; and have their own education support facilities.
