Definition |
Daily average food consumption expressed in calories per inhabitant, represents the calorie content of the quantity of products that serves as human food and which can be used in its entirety as food (excluding the inedible part of an agri-food product which is removed both during industrial or culinary processing and at the time of actual consumption). The indicator shows the average daily number of calories consumed per inhabitant, which can highlight the two sides of malnutrition, malnutrition and overnutrition. To perform vital, body functions needs energy (calories). Ingested food and drink are converted into energy by the body, and calories are the abstract parameter for quantifying the energy provided to the body through food. |

Methodology |
Daily average food consumption per inhabitant, expressed in calories, is calculated as the product of the daily average food consumption per inhabitant (consumable part only), expressed in grams and the calorie content per 1000 grams of food, the edible part. |

For the 2008-2023 period, the usually resident population on July 1st of each year was used.
