Definition |
Total daily average food consumption of protein contributes to the process of increasing and maintaining health, animal proteins are generally complete proteins of high biological value. Proteins are substances that the body needs to grow, to repair its structures, to defend itself and to transmit information to the nervous system. Animal proteins have a superior nutritional quality, given a better digestibility and an adequate content of essential amino acids. |

Methodology |
Daily average food consumption per inhabitant, expressed in protein, is calculated as the product of the daily average food consumption per inhabitant (consumable part only), expressed in grams and the protein content per 1000 grams of food, the edible part. |

For the 2008-2023 period, the usually resident population on July 1st of each year was used.
