Definition |
The unmet need for health care variable refers to the respondent's own assessment of whether he needed to see a specialist but was unable to do so, and if so, what was the main reason for not doing so. This indicator is expressed as a percentage of the population aged 16 and over. The main reasons for unmet needs are the following: - Could not afford (to too expensive or not covered by medical insurance) - Too far to travel or no means of transportation - No time - Didn't know any good doctor - Waiting list - Fear of doctor/ hospital/ examination/ treatment - Wanted to wait and see if problem got better on its own - Other reason. |
