Definition |
The average alcohol consumption is the amount of distilled alcoholic beverages, wines and beer, in the equivalent of 100% alcohol, which returns on averages, per inhabitant, in the reference year. The reduction of the consumption of harmful substances is highlighted directly by the knowledge of the average alcohol consumption per inhabitant. Excessive alcohol consumption can have, in addition to the impact on health by producting over 200 different diseases, dramatic social consequences, relationship problems, loss of friends, job, housing, material difficulties, social exclusion, legal issues, sexual behavior inappropriate. The economic burden induced by harmful alcohol consumption in a society reflects, in monetary terms, all kinds of unwanted social effects, plus costs and economic losses for the government and citizens. |

Methodology |
It is calculated in two variants as a ration between: a) The availability of alcohol and the resident population b) The availability of alcohol and the population aged 15 and over The calculations were made on the basis of data from the global balance of distilled alcoholic beverages, wine and beer, in 100% alcohol equivalent. |
