Definition |
Water abstraction is water removed from any source, either permanently or temporarily from surface or groundwater source. Surface water is the water which flows over, or rests on the surface of a land mass. These can be natural watercourses such as rivers, streams, brooks, lakes, etc., as well as artificial watercourses such as irrigation, industrial and navigation canals, drainage systems and artificial reservoirs. Groundwater represents the layers or watercourses below the surface of the soil in the saturated area and in direct contact with the soil or subsoil, charged by water from precipitation, water flowing to the surface of the earth (rivers, streams, streams), lakes, from condensation of water from great depths or from artificially infiltrated water. |
