TLL1033 - Target 2 - Economic - Energy imports dependency |
Definition |
The indicator shows the share of total energy needs of a country met by imports from other countries. For energy statistics, definitions, concepts and methodology are harmonised at international level. The methodology is described in the Energy Statistics Manual. The relationships between products and flows of Eurostat's energy balances in general follow the International Recommendations for Energy Statistics. |

Data sources |

Methodology |
The indicator is calculated from energy balances as net imports divided by the gross available energy. Energy dependence = (imports - exports) / gross available energy. Negative value indicates net exporter: country that exports more fuels than it consumes. Values higher than 100% mostly refer to the build of stocks (increase of fule in stocks), however might be also a result of statistical discrepancies in raw data. By definition, all nuclear energy production counts as domestic production, regardless the origin of fuel for nuclear fission/fussion. In similar manner, all renewables and biofules count as domestic production, regardless the origin of feedstock (biomass or waste) from which it was produced. |
