TMP1173 - Target 7 - Environment - AVERAGE ANNUAL LEVELS OF PARTICULATE MATTER PM2.5 AND PM10 AT URBAN BACKGROUND MONITORING STATIONS |
Definition |
The average annual level of PM2.5 suspended particles represents the average annual concentration of PM2.5 suspended particles, determined by the gravimetric reference method, at urban background type stations, where PM2.5 are airborne particles with a diameter <2.5 micrometers.
The average annual level of PM10 suspended particles represents the average annual concentration of PM10 suspended particles, determined by the gravimetric reference method, at urban background stations, where PM10 represents airborne particles with a diameter <10 micrometers.
The indicator is used in order to monitor the progress made in substantially reducing the number of deaths and illnesses caused by dangerous chemicals, air, water and soil contamination.
This indicator ensures a high level of significance in measuring air contamination with pollutants, air pollution consists of several pollutants, these particles (PM 2.5 and PM 10) are able to penetrate deep into the respiratory tract and therefore pose a risk to health by increasing mortality caused by respiratory infections and diseases, lung cancer and cardiovascular disease. |

Methodology |
The reference method for the sampling and measurement of PM2.5 and PM10 is that provided in standard EN 12341: ''Ambient air. Standardized method of gravimetric measurement for the determination of the mass fraction of PM10 or PM2.5 of suspended particles''. For each year of the analyzed period and for each monitoring station of urban fund type, which has a particulate sampler PM2.5 and PM10, the average annual concentrations of PM2.5 were downloaded from the website www.calitateaer.ro and PM10. |

Observations |
For the stations where ':' appears, there are no data because the minimum percentage of data collection of 85% has not been achieved, necessary for the calculation of the annual average, according to Law 104/2011, in the respective year.
