TOE1271 - Target 8 - Environment - The surface of green spaces by counties |
Definition |
The surface of green spaces (ha) refers to the surface of green spaces arranged in the form of parks, public gardens or public squares, plots with trees and flowers, forests, cemeteries, land plots and sports facilities within the buildable perimeters of localities. Green spaces do not include greenhouses, nurseries, vegetable gardens, agricultural land, lake area, etc. Green spaces reduce the effect of heat islands by shading and cooling the air through the process of evapo-perspiration. The vegetation located in the vicinity of the buildings reduces the need to use air conditioning, thus reducing energy consumption. Landscaping helps reduce noise pollution by acting as a noise barrier. Green spaces can support a wide variety of plants, insects and birds. The green spaces within the built-up areas of the localities can act as a "wildlife corridor", providing connections with the out-of-town areas, ensuring the maintenance of biodiversity. |
