The National Forest Inventory (NFI) is the main instrument to assess country?s forest resources, and it has to answer to the ever increasing needs of information on forest. The main task of NFI consists of collecting, storing, managing an analyzing data and information regarding forest resources, as well as of publishing the study outcomes. Primary data are taken from the National Forest Inventory every 5 years and estimated in annual time series by the NSI, which annu-ally transmits data to Eurostat through the European Forest Ac-counts Questionnaire (EFA). Standing timber is measured above stump measured over bark to top (0 cm). Includes all trees with diameter over 0 cm d.b.h. (diameter breast height). Includes: tops of stems, large branches; dead trees lying on the ground which can still be used for fibre or fuel (Eurostat, 2002). Volume of standing timber is made up of timber from forests, timber from other areas with forest vegetation and timber from land other than the first categories.
